Brazil | Icoaraçi/Belém
Icoaraçi is a town adjacent to Belém do Pará, which is the Capital of the state of Pará. I stayed there twice. For an art workshop in 2019 and again in early 2020. I quite liked it with its nice beach and promenade, small artisan shops and everything else one needs.
It is also the town where you can find the amazing Casa Do Artistas by Auda Piani and Werne Souza Oliveira, who became very dear friends of mine.
Belém is an interesting city of colonial heritage. The old harbour, the market Vero Peso and adjacent parts of the city still have many beautiful colonial and neoclassical buildings. Of all the cities I visited in Brazil this is the one that feels to me the most authentic and true to its history. I had wonderful encounters there. One of the special things that I experienced in Belém is the 4 o’clock rain that came down daily on the button as a mighty downpour with thunder and lightning. After 15 minutes all is done and the sun shines again.
Belém ist eine sehr interessante Stadt mit kolonialer Geschichte. Der Alte Hafen, mit dem Markt Vero Peso und den daran anschließenden Straßen haben noch viele schöne koloniale und neoklassische Bauten. Von all den Städten, die ich in Brasilien besucht habe, erschien mir Belem als die Stadt, am meisten mit der Vergangenheit verbunden und am authentischsten ist. Eine Spezialität von Belem ist der 16 Uhr Regen, der wie ein Uhrwerk jeden Tag mit Blitz und Donner herunter prasselte. Nach ungefähr 15 Minuten war alles vorbei und die Sonne schien wieder.
